Session 6 Reflection - Teaching Speaking by Using Technology

I had used Audacity to do music editing many years ago but I have never thought that I can actually use it in teaching speaking. Teachers and students can record their speaking through Audacity and add background music and the main point is so easy! I also like the websites that I visited in the lesson tonight. Fluency tutor (https://fluency.texthelp.com) is a good platform for students to listen a passage at home. Students can choose to hear different accent and adjust the reading speed. Another is Songbird by rthk (http://rthk.hk/classicschannel/songbirds.htm). Students can listen to different drama radio and the story is pretty funny I think. I actually really like to listen native speakers' accent and practice speaking English like them. After being back in Hong Kong, it's hard to speak or chat with native speakers. I had also tried to use Screen-O-Matic to record my voice with a PowerPoint. It was very useful because I could record something without seeing my face. I felt more confident in this way :) So I am looking forward for the next class!!

Session 5 Reflection - Great tools for Designing Listening Materials

I really enjoyed tonight's class because I tried to make my own (kind of) listening materials! It was so fun and a lot easier than I thought. My P3 students are learning countable and uncountable nouns. Sometimes they have a hard time to distinguish the different nouns. Watching a video would be much more fun because it is better than I tell them in words or write down on the blackboard. They can actually watch the video individually and also answer the questions while listening. They can't skip the questions too!! What a fabulous teaching source!! I am so impressed and also get some ideas to bring into my lesson. Students are so easy to lose focus during lesson but if I can get them to involve into the lesson, they would be more motivating. I can also use EdPuzzle or TedEd in my general studies lesson as well.
Other thing that I learned tonight is Podcast. Actually, I have never heard of it but all English language learners including teachers can go to these websites and learn how native speakers use English in their way. I enjoyed it a lot!

Session 4 Reflection - The tools for vocabulary teaching and learning

I learned how to use a couple of tools to teach vocabulary tonight. First, I created some flash cards, spelling and a test by using Quizlet. When I typed the words and definition, it would make all the above things in just a second. It makes teaching vocabulary in a quick and easy way. Students can access all these in their tablet or ipad and they could learn the vocabulary and do the assessment.
Second, I tried to use Bubble us to create a mind map. It's pretty easy to make a mind map. I would like to use it as a pre-writing task. Students can actually create a mind map before they start writing anything. They could do it individually or as groups. I think it's more fun to do it in this way than do it with paper and pencil. Students would be more motivating and encouraging in their pre writing task. We also took a quick look of Padlet. It's another tool to teach vocabulary. I would like to use it to make a matching game or categorizing game for students to learn new vocabulary in class.
Going to school after a long day of working has been tough but I do enjoy what I can get from the lessons. Being inspired is great :)
